Policy
Regular school attendance is required pursuant to Arizona’s compulsory attendance laws. Each student is expected to be in attendance, on time, every day that school is in session, except for illness or emergencies.
The education of each student is the joint responsibility of the home and the school. Only through cooperation can the student be assured of receiving all educational advantages available. Student participation in class activities, listening to presentations, clarification, explanations and attendance at school assembly programs are considered integral parts of the educational program. It is impossible to gain the full significance of any class experience through make-up work.
Procedure
Attendance procedures are in accordance with ARS-15 and Prescott Unified School District #1 Governing Board Policy J.2.6.
1. Parent(s) or guardian(s) shall contact the school on the day of an absence, stating the reasons for the absence. If the school does not receive prior notice of a student’s absence, efforts will be made to contact the parent(s) or guardian(s) of the absent student on the initial day of absence.
2. On the first day of the student’s return to school, a note of explanation from the parent(s) or guardian(s) will be provided.
3. According to district policy, after each ten days of absence, if it is determined those absences are affecting student progress, a conference will be scheduled to discuss concerns.
Tardiness
Students are expected to be to school on time each day. If a student is tardy more than two times in a quarter, the student will be assigned to lunch detention for each subsequent tardy. A tardy will only be excused with a note from a dentist/doctor for medical reasons.
