Safety Quiz

Discussion on the readings.

Signatures due.

HW:  (Due Thr.):

Part 1: Half page self-introduction.  (1 page max)

Make it interesting

(Hobbies, personal trivia, future plans.  It’s an open ended topic.)

Think about the “voice” of your writing.  Try to make it reflect your personality.

Part 2: Write a ¼ page reaction to the articles.

I’m looking for insightful discussion (quality of thought, not quantity of words) that shows that you have a deep understanding of the articles.

It can be about either or both articles – whatever moves you.

You must make a connection between at least 2 different parts of the reading.  (For instance, one section talked about internal beliefs and another talked about external praise – How might those factors work together or against each other?  Or, how might the mom respond if she were to read the neurology article?).

Science is Falsifiable

Extra Credit for computer programmers:

Step one:  Download this java source code and compile it into a .jar file.  It uses an “Sconstruct” file to manage the other little files (which are in the bottom-most folder).  I’m not entirely sure whether the sconstruct is in java or python.  When it is compiled it makes a game applet.

Step two:  If you can compile the source code as it is (that is the hard part), let me know and I will give you a couple specific modifications to make, then you recompile it with those modifications.

Tennis Ball Lb Directions:  Throw a tennis ball or other object straight up as high as you can.  Using only a stopwatch or timer, calculate how high the ball goes.  It is up to you to decide when to start and stop the timer and how to set up the problem (remember, you’re goal is to calculate the height of the throw.)  Record the time and show your calculations.
